According to Jumia Mobile Report, the ICT sector has grown and is continuing to grow. Kenya has a young population with an average age of 18 years, with almost three-quarters of the population under the age of 30. Moreover, internet penetration is now at 84% with Kenyan social media users spending up to 3 hours a day.
Predictions in 2018 showed that eCommerce would be largely driven by mobile commerce, giving it about 32.5%. What does this imply? I’m no genius, but it goes without saying; with 91% of internet users accessing the internet via phone, then that is where your focus should be.
Here are tips to help you this festive season.
- Maximize on the 3 hours a day. Find out when users or followers are most active. Ensure you identify 3 hours of engagement with your followers. I know what you are thinking. For companies to get 3 hours of daily engagements is not easy. It requires a lot of effort and good content. Don’t burn out trying to figure out how to get those engagements, let influencers do that for you. It will save you time and keep you focused on your customers.
- Have a mobile app in place. Make it very easy for your clients to shop. Mobile apps are way convenient than the website. If there’s no time to have a mobile app done, ensure your website is very responsive on mobile devices. Consider giving discounts for downloading the app – customers will need a little nudge.
- Go all out with adverts. It’s the holiday season, don’t shy away. Have colourful ads and ensure your graphic designer gets extremely creative. See what your competitors have and come up with ads that will represent your brand values. The holiday season is about pomp and colour. You don’t have to keep your limits within brand colours; explore fun and eye candy designs.
- Introduce fun and games. Shops with physical stores can bring fun and games into the festivity. You too can bring the same on board. Think scavenger hunts and any other game that comes to mind and create fun on your social pages, mobile app and your website. Engage your clients with cool rewards and surprises. They will always check your account out during any holiday season.
So, are you ready to rock this festive season? Remember, meet your customers where they are shopping – and that’s through their mobile phones. Have a sit down with your team and keep those ideas popping -Festivity is already here!
